We’re retrofitting our home to see how self-sufficient we can get. We run the house and our EVs on solar and batteries, exporting the surplus to help clean up the grid. We still have oil heating, so we use a solar diverter to heat our water and "starve the boiler" whenever the sun is out. Now, we’re focused on the "envelope"—upping the insulation and fixing drafts. It’s a work in progress, transitioning a standard house into a smart, independent one. One less gallon at a time.
